May Musings

Somehow, it's the middle of May already.
Since my last post (which was at the end of MARCH!! holy moley!) we have had Easter weekend, my partner and I spent 10 days touring around Scotland in a motorhome (EPIC!) as our main holiday this year, there have been 2 Bank Holidays, and a Coronation. Phew. No wonder I've not had time to blog.
What's Growing?
I have had time to get out in the garden though, and lots has been happening.

I ordered lots of bare root perennial flowers and shrubs in an online sale from a well known plant supplier, so these all got potted up before we went on our holiday. Amongst other things I have 5 varieties of Dahlia, Raspberries, Echinacea, Physalis, Eryngium, Lupins, Gladioli, Peony, and Hazel.

I cleared the south-ish facing border in my garden, ready to direct sow some more annual flower seeds. The last of these have just gone in today, so I will keep you updated on progress as they (hopefully) germinate, grow, and bloom.
The Pansy seeds I sowed in March have mostly all germinated, and I pricked these out and potted them on last weekend.
Unfortunately, the other seeds I tried didn't fare so well. The Achillea has germinated around 8 very small seedlings, so I have potted these on and am keeping my fingers crossed that they perk up now they're in a better growing medium. The Helechrysum, Snapdragon, and Rudbeckia were a bit of a gamble anyway to be honest as they were seeds I had left over from 2018, AND they were not sown in seed compost as I couldn't get any at the time. They did absolutely nothing, and have gone in the (compost) bin.
Lessons learnt: 1) Buy good quality, fresh seed. 2) Use proper seed compost, or at least a decent homemade mix, to sow in to.
Here's a Facebook post with some more photo's from my garden on Sunday 14th May 2023.
I'll update you again in a couple of weeks,
Bye for now!
